I loved this class by Ruben and Sabrina Veliz on giros. They spoke in such detail about the technique of the most fundamental aspects of giro rather than teaching many steps and their variations.

What I liked about this class is that they focused on followers technique which is not so common for a lesson given by a couple. Followers - here are some tips they gave at the lesson to help your giros!!

1. The follower always needs to focus on the base leg in the giro, rather than the leg that is moving. The power for all tango comes from the base leg rather than the free leg. Push into the floor with your base leg to give you power and resistance to the circular movement of the giro

2. A major connection in the giro is in the backs of the leader and the follower which acts like a cylinder, enabling a centrifugal energy in the giro.

3. Followers really need to work on the back ocho in the giro which is the most difficult part. Try to use your hip as an engine to pivot around the leader, rather than stepping out of the axis of the giro.

4. For the forward ocho in the giro, try to dissociate your upper body into the space that the leader is creating, with the energy originating in the dorsal muscles of the back.

5 Note that all pivoting originates in the torso, spiraling down to the hips and the legs. Pivoting needs to take place while using the base leg to push into the floor.
