Hi Tangueros

Who would have ever thought that the day would come when we have more men than women wanting to dance tango!! If anyone has insights into the universe and its workings, please explain. I usually have women saying that there are few men and that they don't like to feel like wallflowers. Now we have fabulous men who are developing as good leaders wanting to dance. Hooray!!!! I would like to think that it will be a continuing trend as men in Cape Town realise that to lead a woman around the dance floor in the tango embrace is the coolest thing to do. I am so encouraged to see the development of these tangueros.

Ladies, where are you? I need followers for my Level 2 classes (see below) and we need to bump up the female quota at Friedas. Hope to see you there!

Travel with Tango

Inspired by tango? Inspired by travel? Well, one of the fantastic things about dancing tango is that it gives you a language to communicate and interact everywhere in the world. From Moscow to San Francisco to Cairo.... there is Argentine tango captivating the hearts of dancers.

Of course the most exciting tango journey is to discover tango in Buenos Aires, where the soul of tango emanates and the history of the dance bubbles beneath you along with the fascinating history of the place. Tango travellers take a leap into another time zone where the action begins at midnight and doesn't stop before  almanacer (sunrise)

At the moment it is summer in Europe and there are festivals practically every week in beautiful locations. A festival usually involves a combination of workshops, prakticas and late night milongas.  Take a look at this website www.tangofestivals.net to find out more.

Last week was the annual festival in Istanbul, a really hot tango destination. Here is a video of Italian dancers Barbara Carpino and Claudio Forte dancing last year at the TanGOTO Festival in 2011
